mallorca 312 - 2026 edition - memories
Memories from our client Robin:
Thank you so much, Liz, for your smooth, quick and friendly help.
I want to tell you something. I saw a member of the group Ciclos Major cycling in front of me on this amazingly beautiful coastline after your first feeding point. I paid attention, making sure to greet him, when I suddenly realised he had a left lower-leg prosthesis.
Because of that, I did not greet him. I was completely overwhelmed by the courage he must have, the drive to belong, and to prove that a setback can always be overcome.
This is dedication, willpower, and a healthy mind and body. How beautiful cycling can be.
I felt so much respect and humility.
Seeing him, even for just a glimpse, gave me power and energy. He might not realise how many riders must have felt the same sense of respect and admiration.
Even more so because he cycled just like the rest of us, with his disability nearly invisible, carrying on while, like me, struggling to go farther.
What an amazing sensation this 312.
The peloton does not wait and goes on, but after a setback, a new peloton arrives to pull you towards your goal. Just as in life. And when you finish, you feel like a winner. A winner for yourself.
It is the most amazing sensation, one that can only be truly understood by those who have felt it.
And even if two or three thousand people have felt it before you, it does not make any difference.
Congratulations to all of you.
Enjoy cycling on beautiful Mallorca,
Robin Van Look
Memories from our guide Robbie Harcourt:
Well, not only is this a tough event in its own right, but it was almost exactly a year since my Dad’s funeral. So yes, a quiet tear was shed at the finish line…
The Mallorca 312: 312km of some of this island’s finest lumps, bumps and flatter roads and lanes. Closed to all traffic other than us two-wheeled, lycra-clad hooligans. 8,500 riders, to be exact. Yup, eight thousand five hundred! And a choice of the full 312km, or 226km or 167km if you don’t want to do the full distance or miss the cut-offs for various reasons.
I knew myself that 312km was too much of an ask, so I hoped I (we) might make the cut-off for the 226km route, but fate had other plans. Mainly, the sheer number of riders getting out of the start pen and then onto the first mountain climb of the day caused delays. So 167km (105 of them real smiles) it was, combined with 7,500ft of climbing in just over 7 hours of riding.
One heck of an experience, and I was happy to make the start line after the last two failed attempts: one ‘self-inflicted’ in 2024 and then last year… enough said.
The level of organisation is frankly mind-boggling; every driveway and access point taped off, every junction manned by volunteers, multiple feed and water stops, the start/finish area, the two-day Expo beforehand, the food and drink laid on at the end for every rider, the secure bike park for finishers whilst we go and celebrate – the list is endless. And then there’s the enthusiasm shown by the locals, in the towns, villages, out on the roads and in the lanes. Bands playing, people young and old cheering us on, a real party atmosphere.
Some time was spent simply riding on my own, overtaking others and being overtaken myself. Other time was spent in smaller and bigger groups. Sometimes slowly dragging this carcass uphill, other times using gravity to its full extent, and at others hammering along on the flatter roads. And time spent with other CiclosMajor riders; staff and clients.
A chilly start, slightly chillier in the early mountains (thinking, why didn’t I take a gilet as well as arm warmers?), but later on thinking I wish there was some shade.
What a day; and yes, I want another crack at it…
In this year’s Mallorca 312 race, Liz Rooney, Sports Director of Ciclos Major, also put in a determined performance.
Along the route, the Ciclos Major Team could be seen cheering on and supporting our customers throughout the event.
