A TYPICAL DAY WITH CICLOS MAJOR

A TYPICAL DAY WITH CICLOS MAJOR

What does a day on a cycling holiday look like?

Breakfast, ride, coffee, ride, lunch, ride, dinner, sleep, and repeat – that doesn’t sound very exciting, does it? This article was written to show everyone considering a cycling holiday with Ciclos Major what a typical day with us is really like.

Our motto is: “It’s all about experience.” At Ciclos Major, we offer a whole range of experiences – and not just cycling.

First of all, your day doesn’t have to start with breakfast.

The beautiful Playa d’Alcúdia beach is just a short walk from both the Zafiro Tropic and Zafiro Palace hotels, so if you’d like to begin your day with a sunrise, be our guest! Watch the colours of the sky change as the sun comes up. Cheer on the brave souls who start their day with a swim in the sea – or join them yourself. One thing is certain: an early morning walk will sharpen your appetite, and a good breakfast is essential before heading out on the bike.

After breakfast, all guests meet at the Zafiro Palace hotel, just a few steps from Zafiro Tropic. There, we check the bikes and stock up on nutrition products. Liz, Ciclos’ Major Sport Director, will ensure that everyone has everything they need before heading out on the road. The cyclists will then split into groups. Hard routes or easy routes, mountains or flat roads, steady pace or fast pace – the choice is yours. This is meant to be enjoyable, not a race.

And the enjoyment begins soon when we turn onto quiet country roads and immediately get a taste of rural Mallorca. The island’s interior is truly breathtaking: the Tramuntana mountain range, flower-filled meadows, almond trees in bloom during February, historic windmills, the sparkling sea in the distance, and even the occasional encounter with local wildlife…

We usually stop for coffee and recovery breaks in picturesque stone-built villages such as Pollensa, Porreres and Muro, or by the sea in places like Port de Pollensa or Son Serra de Marina. Whether it’s coffee, lunch, delicious ice cream, local almond pastries or freshly squeezed orange juice, every day offers something different to enjoy.

But a break from pedalling isn’t just about food and drink. Sometimes it might include climbing the 365 steps of El Calvari in Pollensa, or taking a refreshing swim in a turquoise bay. In this photo, we’re at Cala Sant Vicenç – and from the rocks, Darryl, the owner of Ciclos Major, is keeping a watchful eye on everyone enjoying the water.

If swimming in the sea isn’t for you, the hotel offers several swimming pools. And if you join us during one of our triathlon camps, you’ll have the opportunity to work on your swimming technique under the guidance of our coach, Melissa.

Every few days, we organise social gatherings for our guests on the hotel terrace, which boasts stunning views of the surrounding area. It’s a great chance to meet fellow cyclists, share stories from the day’s rides, and chat with Liz, Darryl, and our guides.

Whether it’s a swim training session or an aperitif before dinner, your appetite is guaranteed to grow – which is perfect, because the Zafiro hotels are renowned for their excellent food.

After a day full of memorable experiences, you’ll sink comfortably into bed thinking:

“Ah, it’s all about experience.”
